Honda was founded in Japan on September 24th 1948 by Soichiro Honda and currently employees over 180,000 people. They were also the first Japanese car maker to release a separate luxury line (Acura). In 2001 they passed Nissan as the second largest Japanese auto maker (behind Toyota). They are also the world's largest motorcycle producer
Honda is also a leader in the alternative fuel/energy source world - they are currently working on several advancements to both improve gas mileage and move away from automobile's dependency upon oil.
Honda has not seen their sales fall like many other auto makers. This is likely due to their high resale value and high fuel eficiency.
